Marking Global Cybersecurity Month and the Cybersecurity Awareness Week celebrations, Sri Ramakrishna Engineering College (SREC), in association with the Computer Society of India – Student Branch, and the Coimbatore City Police, organised a Cybersecurity Awareness Walkathon at the Race Course, Coimbatore, on 14th October 2025.

The event was hosted by Divya, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Headquarters), Coimbatore, and presided over by Ramkumar, CEO of SNR Sons Charitable Trust.

Soundarrajan, Principal of the college, felicitated the gathering and emphasised the institution’s continued commitment to spreading cybersecurity awareness and promoting responsible digital behaviour among students and the public.

The Walkathon witnessed the participation of over 500 NSS volunteers and students from the college, who carried placards and raised slogans highlighting the importance of cyber hygiene, safe online practices, and the prevention of digital crimes.

The event served as a public outreach initiative to sensitise citizens about the threats associated with cyber fraud, phishing, and data breaches.

Inspector Azhaguraja, along with Sub-Inspectors Suganya, Priyanka, and Thamaraikannan from the Cyber Crime Police Division of the Coimbatore City Police, joined the walk to interact with students and raise awareness about real-world cybercrime incidents handled by the department.

The event was jointly coordinated by Perumal from the Computer Society of India and Harihara Gopalan, Faculty Coordinator of the OWASP SREC Chapter, under the guidance of the Principal and Management.

This collaboration between academia and law enforcement highlighted the institution’s proactive approach to community engagement and cyber safety education.

The Cybersecurity Awareness Walkathon marked a significant milestone in the institution’s week-long celebrations held from 13th to 17th October 2025, reinforcing the message of “Secure Today, Safer Tomorrow.”
