Vivekananda Institute of Management Studies (VIMS), Coimbatore, organised an Academic Orientation Programme for the II Semester MBA students on 19 January 2026.

The objective of the programme was to guide students towards holistic personal and professional development.

The session was addressed by Valarmathi, Principal and CEO, who emphasised the importance of self-awareness and continuous improvement.

She encouraged students to regularly conduct SWOT analyses to assess their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and challenges, enabling them to monitor their progress effectively.

In her address, Valarmathi highlighted that there are abundant career opportunities for MBA graduates, provided they clearly identify their preferred functional area and align their preparation accordingly.

She advised students to pursue relevant certification programmes and, more importantly, to focus on developing practical skills required in their chosen field. She cautioned that merely completing certificate courses without acquiring practical skills would not add value to their employability.

She further stressed the importance of attending the daily placement training programmes conducted at VIMS, as these significantly enhance students’ chances of success in campus recruitment.

Students were also encouraged to participate in intercollegiate programmes, develop leadership qualities by organising events during their course, and build strong professional networks through LinkedIn.

The session concluded with a motivating message on proactive learning, networking, and leadership as key drivers of career success.
