Documentary Screening on January 26 at PSG IMSR

The organisation further shared in the press meeting, that as part of its efforts to increase public awareness and reconnect citizens with Tamil Nadu’s natural heritage, Siruthuli is organising a screening of the documentary “Wild Tamil Nadu” on January 26, 2026, at PSG IMSR Auditorium.

The one-hour documentary, filmed over five years by wildlife filmmaker Kalyan Varma, showcases Tamil Nadu’s ecosystems, including forests, wetlands, grasslands, and coastal habitats. Nearly 50 per cent of the footage was filmed in and around Coimbatore. The screening aims to promote awareness on biodiversity conservation and encourage public participation. Proceeds from ticket contributions will support Siruthuli’s tree-planting initiatives.

Continues Noyyal Restoration

Siruthuli will continue its interventions in the Noyyal River Basin, focusing on the restoration of anicuts, traditional small check dams that regulate river flow, enhance groundwater recharge, and support irrigation.

Restoration works have commenced at the Kil Chithirai Chavadi and Pudhukadu anicuts with the support of Karur Vysya Bank. At Kil Chithirai Chavadi anicut, the holding capacity will be increased by 28 million litres, benefiting around 700 farmers. At Pudhukadu anicut, the holding capacity will be increased by 30 million litres, benefiting approximately 300 farmers.

Following the completion of 100 million litres of holding capacity through the restoration of a 5.7 km stretch of the Masorambu Stream with the support of Titan Limited, second-phase restoration works have begun for the remaining 1.5 km stretch.

Addresses Chennai Water Stress

In parallel, Siruthuli is initiating urban water conservation projects in Chennai with the support of Ford. A 4.5-acre waterbody, Odaikeni Vannankulam, located in Sholinganallur, will be restored to increase its holding capacity to 19 million litres.

Works with the Tamil Nadu Government

Building on its milestone of planting over 10 lakh trees, Siruthuli, in collaboration with the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment (HR&CE) Department, Government of Tamil Nadu, is undertaking afforestation on temple lands. With the support of Bharat Forge and JS Auto Cast Foundry India, planting of 10,000 native trees has commenced on 5 acres of HR&CE land at Annur.

As part of its 2026 plan, Siruthuli aims to plant one lakh native trees with implementation support from the Corporation authorities to enhance urban green cover and contribute to climate mitigation efforts.

Stream Restoration Near Fun Mall

Siruthuli continues its efforts to address wastewater pollution affecting surface and groundwater through natural remediation techniques.

The Sundapalayam Stream receives approximately six lakh litres of sewage daily, impacting groundwater quality and posing health risks to nearby residents. Siruthuli, in collaboration with Indo-Tech Transformers Limited, has initiated restoration works along a one-kilometre stretch through cleaning, desilting, and sewage treatment to ensure improved downstream water quality.

In continuation of these efforts, restoration works will also be carried out for a stream flowing near Fun Mall on Avinashi Road.
