The Green Thondamuthur Initiative took a significant step forward on July 21, 2025, as Sadhguru’s Cauvery Calling, in collaboration with the Rotary Clubs of Coimbatore, Thondamuthur and D’Elite, along with the Noyyal River Foundation, launched a large-scale tree-planting campaign.
The initiative aims to plant over two lakh high-value timber trees across agricultural lands in the Thondamuthur region.
Established with the vision of promoting tree-based agriculture, the Green Thondamuthur Initiative seeks to increase green cover in the area to 33 percent, improve the economic well-being of farmers, and contribute to the rejuvenation of the Noyyal River.
Through this effort, farmers will receive saplings of valuable timber species such as teak, mahogany, neem, rosewood, and sandalwood, which promise long-term ecological and financial benefits.
Over the past five years, the Cauvery Calling Movement has partnered with the Thondamuthur Rotary Club, the Coimbatore Architects and Contractors Association, the Tamil Nadu Hotel Owners Association – Coimbatore, and the Bakery Owners Association to provide these high-value saplings to farmers.
More than three lakh trees have already been planted across agricultural lands through this sustained collaboration.
The launch ceremony witnessed the participation of Cauvery Calling coordinators, presidents and representatives of the Rotary Clubs, the Secretary of the Noyyal River Foundation, and several other dignitaries and community members.
Cauvery Calling is a grassroots ecological movement led by Sadhguru and supported by the Isha Foundation. It aims to revitalize the Cauvery River by encouraging farmers to adopt tree-based farming practices.
The movement supports economic stability for farmers while simultaneously enhancing biodiversity, improving soil health, and promoting water conservation. To date, Cauvery Calling has facilitated the planting of over 13.6 crore trees and helped 2.38 lakh farmers transition to tree-based agriculture. In the past year alone, 8,721 farmers have been trained through similar initiatives.
