The Rotaract Club of Coimbatore Institute of Technology (CIT) organised the second edition of its flagship marathon, SIRAGU’25, approved by the Coimbatore District Athletic Association and Coimbatore Police, under the theme “Run to Feel, Walk to Understand.”
It was held on May 18, 2025, at the CIT campus. The event saw more than 450 participants, ranging from children as young as 4½ years to senior citizens aged 85.
Rtr. Thanghapantieyaan, District Rotaract Representative, and Rtr. Sathish Balakrishnan, Immediate Past District Rotaract Representative, graced the occasion.
The marathon featured both 5 km and 10 km categories for men and women, with the route beginning and ending at CIT College, passing through CODISSIA, Vilankurichi Road, and TIDEL Park Road.
The event began with a warm-up session and a DJ performance, followed by the flagging off of the 10 km marathon and 5 km run.
Cash prizes were awarded to the top performers in both categories: ₹3000 for 1st place, ₹1500 for 2nd, and ₹750 for 3rd in the 10 km marathon, and ₹2000 for 1st place, ₹1000 for 2nd, and ₹500 for 3rd in the 5 km marathon.
In addition to medals, certificates, and T-shirts, every participant received a plant sapling along with refreshments.
A memorable highlight of the event was the participation of CIT alumnus Rtn. Prasanna, Mettur Marathon Secretary, who completed his 55th marathon by reverse walking.
This year’s marathon also championed the “Blindathon” cause, with all registration proceeds dedicated to providing walking sticks for the visually impaired, a cause close to the organisers’ hearts.
The event was made possible with the support of sponsors like Animax Multimedia, Phoenix Fitness Studio and Gym, and TicketPrix, the ticketing partner.
The organisers expressed that “SIRAGU is more than just a marathon; it is a movement for empathy, empowerment, and environmental consciousness. We are proud of our growing community of change-makers.” With the success of its second edition, SIRAGU is now set to become a recurring beacon of hope, health, and humanity in Coimbatore.
