Rathinam College of Arts and Science recently organised a one-day ICSSR-sponsored National Conference “Families in Transition: The Sociology of Indian Households in Contemporary Times”, bringing together academicians, researchers, and students from across the region.

The conference commenced with an inaugural ceremony, graced by Shima Sendhil, Director, Rathinam Group of Institutions; Balasubramanian, Principal; and distinguished resource persons.

The welcome address was delivered by Kousalyadevi, Conference Convenor. The keynote session emphasised the urgent need to understand evolving family structures in contemporary India.

The event witnessed the participation of nearly 150 delegates from around 15 institutions. Two technical sessions formed the core of the conference.

Manickavasagam from Bharathidasan University provided a sociological perspective on changing family dynamics, while Saravana Lal, Legal Advisor, presented critical insights on legal frameworks related to family and social justice.

A major highlight of the conference was the research paper presentation session, where scholars showcased their findings on diverse themes such as emotional well-being and legal reforms. The Best Paper Award was presented during the valedictory session presided over by Sabareesh, Dean of Research and Development.
