PSGR Krishnammal College for Women, Coimbatore, in collaboration with the National Institute of Social Defense (NISD), Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India, is hosting a Two-Day National Conference-cum-Workshop on “Generation Connect: Ageing, Inclusion & Empowerment” on 8th and 9th December 2025 at the Chandra Seminar Hall.

This national event is being organised exclusively for senior citizens, with the vision of creating an age-positive learning space that encourages participation, wellbeing, safety, and connection.

This workshop gains significance at a time when India is witnessing a rapid demographic shift, with the elderly population expected to double by 2050.

The programme aims to sensitise the community, empower senior citizens with practical knowledge, and promote healthy, dignified, and active ageing.

It focuses on strengthening elders’ awareness about their rights, health literacy, digital confidence, emotional wellness, and financial safety areas that have become increasingly crucial in today’s fast-changing world.

The two days will feature talks by leading experts on ageing myths and realities, holistic health, emotional wellbeing, mobility and nutrition, technology use for elders, and financial protection.

Hands-on workshops, group discussions, and interactive storytelling sessions are designed to help seniors share their experiences, learn simple digital tools, and understand safety mechanisms.

A design-thinking activity will guide participants in imagining and co-creating elder-friendly communities that support autonomy and inclusion.

By bringing together elders, students, academicians, practitioners, and social work professionals, the event aims to foster intergenerational dialogue, encourage mutual respect, and strengthen family–community bonds.

The programme also seeks to raise awareness about NISD’s national initiatives, such as Elderline, capacity-building efforts, and government support systems designed to protect and empower senior citizens.

This workshop reflects the college’s continued commitment to community engagement, compassionate outreach, and social responsibility.

The institution aims to create a meaningful platform where senior citizens feel valued, heard, and supported by promoting not only learning and empowerment but also connection, confidence, and well-being.

The event is expected to benefit a large number of elders and inspire further initiatives toward building a respectful and inclusive society for ageing populations.
