In a significant gesture towards improving neonatal care for the underprivileged, PSGTECHS COE INDUTECH, the Center of Excellence for Industrial and Home Textiles established under the Ministry of Textiles’ Technology Mission for Technical Textiles (TMTT), donated 200 baby bed protectors to the Paediatrics and Neonatology departments of the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) on 4th December 2024.

As part of its social responsibility initiative, the Centre manufactures high-quality baby bed protectors designed to safeguard infant mattresses from fluids, stains, and allergens, thereby reducing the risk of infections, rashes, and respiratory allergies among newborns.

These waterproof, breathable, and machine-washable protectors are available in multiple standard and custom sizes.

Muthukumar, Administrator of the centre, formally handed over 200 baby bed protectors to Dr. Sasikumar, Head of Paediatrics, Coimbatore Medical College Hospital, in the presence of Dr. Geethanjali, Dean of the hospital.

The event also saw participation from several distinguished medical professionals, including Dr. Senthil Kumar, Chief, Paediatrics Unit 2; Dr. Kumar, Chief, Paediatrics Unit 3 from CMCH; Dr. Saravana Priya, RMO; Dr. SubbaRao, Principal, PSG Institute of Medical Sciences & Research; and Dr. Jayavardhana, Head of Paediatrics, PSG IMS&R.

Following the formal handover, the team visited the neonatology ward to deliver the protectors to the nursing staff and caregivers. The CMCH team expressed deep appreciation for the contribution and highlighted its immediate usefulness in enhancing hygiene and comfort for newborns.

During the interaction, the neonatology unit requested support in fabricating specialised garments for Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) and shared a sample with the centre’s team.

Muthukumar assured that the Centre would explore producing and donating these garments as well.

Speaking at the occasion, Dr. Sasikumar thanked PSG & Sons’ Charities for their thoughtful support, emphasising the critical need for such protective materials in minimising infection risks among vulnerable newborns.

He noted that each bed protector can withstand up to 30 washes, making the donation adequate for approximately three months of use. He requested continued periodic contributions to sustain quality neonatal care.

Dr. Geethanjali also conveyed her gratitude to the PSG management for their ongoing commitment to public health.
