Speaking at the inaugural session, Ramaswamy noted that India today has 4.25 lakh Chartered Accountants, and more than 10 lakh students are currently pursuing the course. He said the accounting profession plays a crucial role in India’s economic development, and CA aspirants have significant responsibilities and opportunities ahead.

“Do not feel that your opportunities are restricted only to India. Your opportunities have opened up,” he said, adding that ICAI is working to ensure Indian Chartered Accountants become globally recognised professionals. He pointed out that a substantial number of CFOs in foreign countries are from India, and many Chartered Accountants in Singapore, Australia and Dubai are also of Indian origin.

He further stated that the Government of India, especially Prime Minister Modi, is taking a personal interest in enhancing global acceptance for Indian Chartered Accountants. Once the CA qualification is completed in India, candidates can become Chartered Accountants in countries such as England, Wales, Australia and Singapore (and other nations with which India has agreements) by clearing just one additional exam.

Emphasising that opportunities are abundant, Ramaswamy urged students to prepare structured study plans, leverage technology such as AI to strengthen their professional skills and avoid distractions commonly associated with technology. He reminded them that challenges will arise, but perseverance will ultimately lead to success.

Addressing the gathering, Vanitha Mohan said that businesses revolve around finance, and within any financial system, the role of a Chartered Accountant is pivotal. She described CAs as the fine threads that hold the fabric of organisations together. She encouraged aspiring CAs to learn the importance of bringing people together in their workplaces, noting that doing so will yield exceptional outcomes.

During a press interaction on the sidelines of the event, Ramaswamy was asked how AI could support Chartered Accountants. He explained that those who learn to use AI will find it a powerful tool for studying, preparing and verifying financial statements and documents. He added that AI will provide CAs with valuable information but emphasised that it is only a tool and cannot replace the human mind.
