To promote responsible pet ownership, improve animal welfare, and ensure a safer, more compassionate environment for both pets and community animals across the state, Anitha R. Radhakrishnan, Minister for Animal Husbandry, recently announced in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly that pet parks would be set up in Coimbatore.

The parks will be made at the cost of ₹ 5 crore with the support of private, said the minister. These parks are designed to raise awareness among pet owners and will offer rehabilitation and medical facilities for pets.

He also mentioned that birth control programs for community dogs would be extended across the state. The Tamil Nadu government plans to extend the animal sterilization project to ensure the effective operation of animal birth control centers, and it will be implemented by the Animal Welfare Board with private participation, at a cost of ₹20 crore.
