Dr. NGP Arts and Science College recently organised a One-Day Training Programme on “Human Rights and Values – Promotion and Protection for Students”, sponsored by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).

The event commenced with the Welcome Address delivered by Banudevi, Dean – Commerce and Management. This was followed by a Felicitation Address by Muthuswamy, Director – Academics, Dr. N.G.P. Educational Institutions, who emphasized the significance of Human Rights in the present scenario.

The Inaugural Address was delivered by Illakkiya Karunagaran, Senior Superintendent of Police, NHRC, New Delhi. She highlighted the vital role of the National Human Rights Commission in promoting and safeguarding human rights across the nation and also shared real-life case experiences.

The technical deliberations were led by the following renowned resource persons:

  • Sarathi, Advocate & Chairperson, Coimbatore Human Rights Forum (CHRF), oriented participants on Human Rights, Fundamental Rights, and Women’s Rights.
  • Gokila, Advocate and Former Legal Advisor, Bharathiar University, explained the functions of Civil Courts, Criminal Courts, and Human Rights Commissions, along with insights on Women’s Rights.
  • Kamalaveni, Associate Professor, Centre for Women’s Studies, Pondicherry University, elaborated on the Rights of Women and Children.
  • Madhivanan, Advocate and Mediator, District Court ADR Panel, Coimbatore, discussed Sustainable Development Goals, gender equality, and societal factors impacting vulnerable groups.

Around 100 students participated in the programme.
