PSG Institute of Medical Sciences & Research (PSG IMSR) and Hospitals, in collaboration with the Kangaroo Mother Care Foundation of India and the Neonatology Association of Tamil Nadu, is jointly conducting the 8th National Conference on Kangaroo Mother Care 2025 at the hospital.

The two-day national conference, themed “Kangaroo Mother Care – A Gamechanger for Newborn Care in India,” began today, 13th September 2025, and will continue until 14th September 2025.

The event brings together leading pediatricians, neonatologists, nurses, researchers, and global KMC champions to exchange knowledge and best practices.

The inaugural session was graced by the Chief Guest, Arun Thamburaj, Mission Director, National Health Mission, Tamil Nadu, who emphasised the vital role of the Kangaroo Mother Care Foundation in strengthening India’s newborn care initiatives.

Distinguished guests present at the inauguration included Dr. Vani, President, Kangaroo Mother Care Foundation of India, Dr. Manoj, President, National Neonatology Forum, India, and Dr. Neena Raina, Former Director, WHO-SEARO.

Throughout the day, experts from India and abroad — including Dr. Nathalie Charpak from Colombia, Dr. Nils Bergman from Sweden, and Dr. Kim Chi Luong from Vietnam — shared valuable insights on topics such as neurodevelopment, zero-separation policies, and the global implementation of Kangaroo Mother Care.

The conference also featured:

  • An exhibition showcasing innovative practices in newborn care

On 14th September, the conference will continue with a KMC Walk/Marathon, symbolising community participation in spreading awareness about newborn care.

The final day will also include deliberations on expanding KMC practices across both government and private healthcare sectors, with contributions from national and international agencies such as ICMR, UNICEF, WHO, and the Gates Foundation.
