“In months, I love Margazhi,” says Lord Krishna. This month holds special significance as the climate changes from the rainy season to the beautiful winter season, with the ozone layer gently settling above the earth.
Our ancestors taught us to enjoy the mornings of this month by waking up early and spending time in devotional activities. Chanting slokas and devotional songs in the chilly morning air is truly a beautiful experience, said a resident of Ananya’s Nana Nani home.

At Ananya’s Nana Nani homes, each phase has its own temple. Residents, particularly the ladies, rise early to gather at the temple during Margazhi. Thiruppavai, Thiruvambavai, and Suprabatham are chanted at every temple. We especially enjoy the stories of Andal and praise her for her devotion and knowledge, which ultimately helped her marry Lord Ranganatha of Srirangam—a true example of determination and focus.
The Pasurams written by Andal, including Thiruppavai and Nachiyar Thirumozi, are in Tamil, one of the oldest languages. They provide a glimpse into the social life of her time, when cattle were considered an important asset in society. Today, WhatsApp groups are filled with Thiruppavai and Thiruvambavai slokas, meanings, pictures, and songs, keeping the tradition alive.

For us residents, meeting at the temples within our Nana Nani compounds is a wonderful experience, one of the best facilities provided by the management. Being in a comfortable and devotional environment truly helps the mind embrace bhakti.
Traditional music also plays an important role in our homes. Many residents perform music, dance, and even short dramas. We have even produced short movies with residents as actors. Cine-music lovers enjoy karaoke performances, which are not only entertaining but also help strengthen the mind and, according to studies, may aid in healing. Through these activities, the month of Margazhi contributes to both spiritual and physical well-being, and Ananya’s management encourages participation in all such events.

“Vaikunta Ekadashi, an important festival, is celebrated in our Nana Nani homes every year during Margazhi. A flood of bhakti flows through our temples on this day, reminding us of the ultimate aim of reaching moksha after this life. We also invite performers from outside to present programs in our auditoriums, adding variety and joy to the celebrations.
In a nutshell, the month of Margazhi is greatly enjoyed by all residents at Ananya’s Nana Nani homes. And of course, how can one miss the tasty prasadam distributed at the temples after morning and evening poojas? As Thayar Andal said, we enjoy the prasadam with “Mooda nei paithu mazankai vazi vaara.” One truly has to experience life at Ananya’s Nana Nani homes to believe and appreciate all this,” shared the resident.
