Hindusthan College of Engineering and Technology (HiCET) and Coimbatore Society for Racing Minds (CSRM) organized the 8th season of national-level Solar Electric Vehicle (SEV) Championship and Electric/Engine Kart Vehicle Championship recently.

Held from February 26 to March 2, 2026, the five-day event brought together student innovators and engineering teams from across the country. Students dedicated nearly 4 to 5 months to design, fabricate, and test their vehicles. Alongside vehicle development, teams prepared comprehensive documentation including design reports, cost analysis, business plans, and innovation reports, gaining valuable industry-oriented exposure.

A total of 48 teams registered for the event, of which 34 teams were shortlisted following a rigorous virtual evaluation process conducted by the organizing committee.

Ashok Udhayakumar, Managing Director of UPV Solar took part as the Chief Guest and inaugurated the championships in the presence of J. Jaya, Principal and K. Siva, Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department, Hindusthan College of Engineering and Technology.

The final endurance race was held at Kari Speedway, Chettipalayam. HiCET actively participated with three teams competing in the solar vehicle category, kart vehicle category, and a special campus utility vehicle segment.

In the final results, Team Hyperion from College of Engineering in Maharashtra emerged as the overall winner. Team Hindusthani Lahurians from Hindusthan College of Engineering and Technology secured the second position.

A special highlight of the event was the Autonomous Round, in which teams demonstrated advanced control systems by operating their vehicles without a driver.
