The Department of Visual Communication, Hindusthan College of Arts and Science (HICAS) hosted a session titled “Prosthetic Makeup on Feature Films” at Chanakya Hall, recently.The session was led by the esteemed Mathra Madhan, an SFX/Prosthetic Makeup Artist from Vancouver Film School Makeup for Film & TV, Canada.The event commenced with a warm welcome by Dr. Jone Antony Raja, Head of the Department of Visual Communication, who extended his cordial greetings to Madhan and the attendees. The session was attended by both undergraduate and postgraduate students from the Visual Communication program.
Madhan discussed on the importance and artistry of prosthetic makeup, describing it as a mesmerizing craft that plays a crucial role in transforming actors into imaginative characters, animals, or even realistic injuries. She elaborated on the various materials used in prosthetic makeup, including silicon, foam, and gelatin, and how these materials are chosen based on budget constraints and weather conditions. A time-lapse film showcasing these materials in action provided a fascinating visual demonstration of the makeup process.
During the session, Madhan shared her valuable hands-on experience working in the film and television industry at the Vancouver Film School and revealed her involvement with notable projects, including the popular web series Riverdale, The Good Doctor, and various other films. The seminar featured a live demonstration of character construction using SFX materials, showcasing the technical skills required in the field.
