VLB Janakiammal College of Arts and Science, in association with the Alliance Club of Coimbatore, Cheran District 250S, celebrated ‘Gramiya Pongal 2026’ on 12 January 2026.

Jaishree Suryakumar, CEO and Secretary of the college, presided over the function and encouraged the gathering to rejoice in the charm of tradition and cultural celebrations.

Kalaivani, Principal, and Brindha, Director – Academics and Research, shared their thoughts, emphasising the importance of preserving rural traditions and instilling cultural values among students through such vibrant celebrations.

Students and staff arrived in traditional dhotis and sarees, adding colour and authenticity to the occasion. A variety of competitions were conducted to evoke and showcase students’ talents.

As part of the celebrations, students prepared pongal to mark the harvest festival and created rangolis depicting diverse and vibrant themes.

Traditional rural games such as Uri Adithal, Tug of War, and Stone Lifting were conducted. In the stone-lifting event, students demonstrated their physical strength by lifting 100 kilograms to claim honours.

Students also brought farm animals and a bullock cart to symbolise Tamil tradition and culture. Cultural performances, including Oyilattam and Silambam, were presented, reflecting the history, traditions, and values of Tamil culture.

Entrepreneurial stalls were set up by the Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) and the VLBJ Incubation and Startup Centre.

Prizes were distributed to the winners of the various competitions, and the celebrations concluded with musical entertainment by DJ Yoyo.

Prabhakaran, President, Alliance Club of Coimbatore, Cheran District 250S, appreciated and thanked the students for celebrating Gramiya Pongal with enthusiasm, cheer, and fervour.

The event was further graced by the presence of Ally Srinivasan, Ally Rajan, Ally Prabhakaran, Ally Sundaram, Ally Mahalakshmi, Ally Gopalakrishnan, Ally Yuvaraj, and Ally Murali of the Alliance Club, who applauded the students’ enthusiasm and efforts in celebrating Gramiya Pongal in its true spirit.

They also expressed their appreciation for the institution’s commitment to nurturing cultural heritage and encouraging student creativity.
