In the recently held NGO-CSR Summit in Madurai, organised by NGO Help Foundation (NHF), Deepa Muthaiya, Founder Chairman, DEAN Foundation, Chennai was honoured with the ‘NGO Leadership Award.’
The award was presented by the Chief Guest, Justice Krishnan Ramasamy, Madras High Court to Deepa Muthaiya.
The award is honoured for her untiring efforts for the past 26 years, providing medical services and end-of-life care to over 19,000 patients and families, suffering from life-threatening illnesses, hailing from the marginalized, poorer sections of society. Through her organization, the DEAN Foundation, she also provides holistic and complementary therapies which are out of reach for many, in their own homes.
The Chief Guest, in his speech quoted from the Thirukkural, how 2000 years ago in India, there were ancient practices for charity towards the poor. “We have a deep-rooted culture for caring and sharing. Now the Company’s Act, Section 135, has made Charity compulsory,” he said. Furthermore, he added, that India’s ancient wisdom is still relevant today and inspires to work for larger objectives of the well-being of all stakeholders.
He appreciated the key person behind the Summit, Biju George, CEO South of NGO Help Foundation, for his efforts in creating opportunities for the NGOs, to empower them to help the needy and the disadvantaged.
At the summit, Kuppusamy, Chairman of RVS Group of Institutions, Coimbatore was also honoured with the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award.’
Advocate K Samidurai, State President of Indian Association of Lawyers, Madurai, Biju George, Chief Executive Officer, South, NGO Help Foundation, Venkhataraam, Executive Vice President were also present.
