The entire stretch of Scheme Road in Race Course has come alive with creativity and colours with the recent launch of the Art Street of Coimbatore Vizha.
Art Street is an open-air mega art exhibition that celebrates artistic talents in the city & beyond.
Kranthi Kumar, Coimbatore District Collector inaugurated the two-day exhibition on Saturday (30th November 2024) in the presence of R. Sundar, Managing Trustee, SNR Sons Charitable Trust; Arun Senthilnathan, Chair; Saumya Gayathri and Saritha Lakshmi, Co-Chairs, Coimbatore Vizha 2024.
Art Street was first introduced in the 10th edition of Coimbatore Vizha as a platform for artists from Coimbatore and other neighbouring regions to showcase their creative talents through art.
Held under the theme ‘Sustainability’, Art Street this year features 100+ artists who have exhibited Sand art, devotional and mythology portraits, vivid paintings of various styles including handmade reverse glass painting, Kerala murals, meticulous monochrome sketches, creative art designs and installations, etc.
These works have started attracting the city folks to Race Course in huge numbers. A huge Elephant installation made using plastic bottles excited everyone. The life-sized artwork instantly became an attraction of the art fest.
Sruthi from Coimbatore Vizha said that this event shared that a large-scale art competition was held ahead of Art Street on the theme ‘Coimbatore in 2030’ to throw spotlight on young talents and their vision for Coimbatore. 400+ students belonging to 133 government-run schools participated in this competition.
The top 3 winners received the prize and certificates from Coimbatore Collector at the event, while the top 100 artworks of students have been exhibited at this 2-day extravaganza.
