Badrinarayanan, Superintendent of Police, Anti Terrorism Squad, Coimbatore took part as the Chief Guest and inaugurated the event along with Akila Vaidhyanathan from The Amaze Charitable Trust (also a parent of a special child).

“The event featured different sporting activities, tailored to engage both children and adults. Earlier, the events would be held either for special children or for differently-abled adults. This time we have held events in a combined way. Totally 8 events were held,” said Varun from Coimbatore Vizha.

For adults, the lineup included dynamic and competitive games such as Unified Cricket, Wheelchair Basketball, Sit-Down Volleyball, and Wheelchair Table Tennis.

These events showcased the athletes’ remarkable skills, resilience, and unwavering spirit.

The activities for children were equally engaging and inclusive, with events like Special Children Throwball, Special Children Play Football, Unified Cricket, and the heartwarming Cycle with Disability, which allowed young participants to showcase their abilities and confidence. Special children from different special schools in and around Coimbatore participated.

“We joined hands with various para-sports associations to organize the respective para-sport event. For blind cricket, we partnered with the Tamil Nadu Blind Cricket Association. Each event had a partnership from the respective association,” Varun said.

After inaugurating the event, Badrinarayanan underlined the importance of sports in a person’s life. He highlighted the spectacular performance of Indian para-athletes at the 2024 Paralympics, and motivated everyone to rise against all odds.

Parents, educators, and community members cheered on, creating a spirited and encouraging atmosphere that reinforced the values of equality and opportunity for all.

This year’s Coimbatore Vizha is chaired by Arun Senthilnathan, with co-chairs  Saumya Gayathri and Saritha Lakshmi, alongside the event coordinator Pratham, whose dedication ensured the event’s resounding success.
