Rathinavani Community Radio 90.8, a radio channel of Rathinam Arts and Science College in collaboration with the Department of Visual Communication and SMART, hosted a Climate Change Awareness Workshop, recently.
The event brought together a panel of experts, journalists, and scholars from diverse fields to discuss innovative strategies for addressing the urgent challenges posed by climate change.
The workshop began with a welcome address by Mahendran, Director of Rathinavani Community Radio Station, followed by an introductory speech from Raju, Assistant Professor & Dean of the college.
The felicitation address was delivered by Sathish Anandan, Head of the Department of Visual Communication.
Srinivasan, Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Microbiology highlighted the wide-ranging effects of climate change on ecosystems and human health. He emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary solutions to mitigate its impact on biodiversity and public well-being.
Sivaraj, Assistant Professor at Amrita College of Agriculture, shed light on sustainable agricultural practices as a key approach to counter environmental degradation. Using real-world examples, he illustrated the role of eco-friendly farming techniques in conserving natural resources for future generations.
Aruna Muthukumar, a mental health counsellor and special educator, discussed the psychological impacts of climate change and encouraged students to foster a culture of environmental awareness and responsibility.
Maithili Ravichandran, an environmental activist elaborated on the effects of climate change and practical preventive measures, while Jayachandran, Editor of Tamil Nadu News, emphasized the pivotal role of students in building a sustainable future.
A special video presentation showcased the effects of climate change and proposed actionable solutions. Participation certificates were distributed to attendees.
Over 100 students from the Department of Visual Communication, along with journalists and other college students, participated in this insightful workshop. The event served as an inspiration for youth to take an active role in combating climate change and exploring its solutions.
