The Coimbatore District Cricket Association (CDCA) has announced the launch of the first-ever District Women’s Cricket League, scheduled to be held during April and May, featuring four to five teams.

The initiative aims to promote and strengthen women’s cricket in the district by providing a competitive platform for talented players.

The league will be conducted under the guidance of Guruswamy, Vice-President of the association, who will lead the development of women’s cricket in Coimbatore with the support of the association.

Coimbatore has already shown strong potential in women’s cricket, having won the TNCA District Women’s Tournament last year.

The association also highlighted its efforts to promote inclusivity in cricket officiating, with two women umpires currently officiating men’s league matches.

Additionally, Rithika, believed to be India’s first transgender cricket umpire, has officiated around 10 CDCA league matches, making Coimbatore the first district in Tamil Nadu to have a transgender umpire officiating league matches.
