Carnatic Music sensation from Swiss performs live in Coimbatore at Ananya’s Nana Nani 

When a celebrated Carnatic and Abhang music performer is in the building – be it an international arena full of vibrant audience or a grand hall/sabha full of passionate listeners of the genres, you definitely know it will be a special evening.

To create not 1 but 3 such incredible evenings for the residents at Ananya’s Nana Nani Homes, the leading retirement gated community developer is hosting a 3-day Abhang Mela, featuring the accomplished and versatile in Carnatic and Abhang music performer ‘Sai Gana Saraswathi’ Uma Kumar.

The inaugural concert session began beautifully at Ananya’s Nana Nani Phase 3 in Dhaliyur, where residents gathered in huge numbers to get immersed in the classical music showers of Uma Kumar.

Uma is a multi-award-winning singer based in Switzerland, touring all over the world with the mission to take the classical and traditional music genres of India to the various parts of the globe.

As a third-generation musician, she carries forward the distinguished musical legacy of her grandfather, Sangeetha Bhushanam Saattur Sri A. G. Subramaniam. She received her foundational training from her mother, Vidushi Lakshmi Sundaram. She holds Master’s degrees in Carnatic Music from the University of Madras.
Uma Kumar has performed Carnatic concerts on All India Radio and TV Channels. Recognizing that the traditional audience for Carnatic music is primarily in the five southern states of India, she seeks to broaden its appeal through thematic concerts. This approach allows her to select common themes while preserving traditional styles.

Her foray into Abhang music began in 2020, inspired by leading exponents of the genre. Since then, she has presented over 20 Abhang concerts in the USA, Canada, Switzerland, and India, performing at distinguished venues such as Sri Krishna Gana Sabha & Tattvaloka, Chennai and the Bangalore International Centre.
A major milestone in her artistic journey was her performance at the 2024 Olympics Fan Zone in Paris. In her 30+ years of journey in Music, she headlined 200+ international concerts in leading auditoriums, sabhas, temples, cultural festivals and other prominent venues.

At Ananya’s Nana Nani, Uma Kumar is performing Marathi Abhangs, Hindustani Ragas and Carnatic Style performances. The performance for the second-day will take place at Ananya’s Nana Nani Phase 4 and at Phase 6 in KNG Pudur and KN Palayam, respectively.
