The Tamil Nadu Government has released safety guidelines for bus drivers to follow during the monsoon season. The Transport Department said these steps are important to ensure safe travel for passengers during heavy rains.
The main guidelines include:
- Drivers of long-distance buses should be careful while driving on roads near rivers and streams.
- Even if passengers ask to pass through areas with water, drivers must use only alternative routes.
- Check that bus headlights are working properly and watch out for fallen trees or electric poles on the road.
- Make sure drainage systems in bus depots are clear and water does not get collected.
- Report any issues, such as rainwater leakage inside the bus or faulty reclining seats to the branch managers.
- Drivers on coastal routes should listen to weather updates and follow official advisories.
The Transport Department said all drivers should strictly follow these rules to ensure safe and smooth operations during the monsoon.
