The Second Annual Meeting of the Federation of Coimbatore Apartment Owners’ Associations was held on 31 January 2026 at Siruthuli Auditorium, Coimbatore.

Senthil Balaji, MLA, Karur, DMK; Durai Senthamizh Selvan, District In-charge, Coimbatore City, DMK; Ravi, In-charge, Western Region, DMK; and Rajiv Gandhi, Secretary, State Youth Wing, participated in the meeting.

Residents of various apartment associations stated that they have been paying house tax and garbage tax separately and have also paid deposits for drinking water connections. Despite this, basic civic amenities provided to other residents of Coimbatore have been consistently denied to apartment residents.

They further pointed out that although garbage tax is paid to the Municipal Corporation, garbage collection services were not provided earlier. As the Corporation had handed over garbage collection to private companies, apartment associations were forced to segregate biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste and pay thousands of rupees as double charges for waste removal.

Similarly, in apartment complexes consisting of 50, 100, 200, or even 300 houses, a deposit of Rs.10,000 is collected from each household, but only 5 to 10 drinking water connections are provided. Due to inadequate water supply, residents are compelled to extract groundwater through deep borewells and purify it using RO plants for drinking purposes. For this, they are required to pay commercial electricity tariffs.

The Municipal Corporation lays tar roads, installs street lights, constructs sewage canals, and maintains them throughout the year on public streets. While the same taxes are collected from apartment residents, such facilities are not provided within apartment complexes. There are no common street lights, and essential services such as lift operation, electricity charges, and maintenance for residents living on higher floors are not taken care of by the Corporation.

The associations demanded that the Municipal Corporation should undertake the maintenance and operation of lifts for residents to travel from the ground floor to the upper floors. Alternatively, they sought a reduction in house tax for residents living on upper floors.

They stated that representations have been continuously made for more than the past 10 years to State Ministers, the Municipal Commissioner, and the Mayor, requesting a revision of the policy of uniform taxation for all.

After submitting their grievances to Senthil Balaji, they were informed that, following discussions with the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, directions had been issued to the Municipal Corporation to ensure proper garbage collection and to provide additional drinking water connections.

Subsequently, garbage collection in apartment complexes has commenced through Municipal Corporation vehicles, and applications have been invited for providing additional drinking water pipeline connections.

On behalf of the associations, gratitude was expressed to the Chief Minister, the Deputy Chief Minister, and Senthil Balaji for addressing their demands with compassion.

Apartment Welfare Associations in Coimbatore that have not yet joined the Federation were requested to contact +91 90955 66694.

Kannan, President of the Federation; Jayapal, Vice President; Senthilkumar, Secretary; committee members; and a large number of apartment association administrators participated in the meeting.
