The Department of Visual Communication at Hindusthan College of Arts and Science recently organised an International Conference titled “Media Metamorphosis & AI: Unveiling the Future of Content.”

Jone Antony Raja, Head of the Department, delivered the welcome address.

In the keynote address, the chief guest, Ravi, Vice-Chancellor of Koppal University, Bengaluru, emphasised the transformational role of media in guiding and shaping society, particularly in the digital era.

He highlighted the growing online presence, noting that India has over 150 million podcast users and that 70% of Indians prefer video news.

While acknowledging that digital media and AI are reshaping journalism, he cautioned that platforms like WhatsApp often serve as channels for spreading rumours. Ravi concluded by stating that embracing technology with creativity, without glorifying AI, will be key to the future growth of content and communication.

Balasubramania Raja, Head of the Department of Communication, MS University, Tirunelveli, discussed how AI is transforming the scale and speed of news production.

He observed that while emojis are emerging as a form of expression, they cannot replace the clarity of text. He advised participants to understand the purpose of when, what, and how to use AI.

He concluded that AI can support and amplify human abilities but can never replace human intelligence and creativity.

Other international faculty members included Asma Majeed, Assistant Professor at Kinnaird College for Women, Pakistan, and Sribrendhiran, Lecturer at the National Institute of Education, Sri Lanka.

The conference continued with engaging panel discussions and research presentations by participants, including research scholars, professors, and media industry professionals. The event concluded with a valedictory session, during which certificates were distributed to all participants.

The session ended with a vote of thanks delivered by Abdullah Alfazeena, Assistant Professor in the Department of Visual Communication.
