To promote road safety and spread awareness about the importance of wearing helmets, Anaamalais Coimbatore, in partnership with Uyir, an NGO dedicated to road safety organised a Bike Rally from PRS Grounds to Codissia ground on Sunday.
It was held in association with the 17th edition of Coimbatore Vizha. The rally was flagged off by Rajkanna, Deputy Commissioner, Armed Reserve; Ashok Kumar, Deputy Commissioner, Traffic and Ravichandran, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Traffic, Coimbatore City in the presence of Arun Senthilnathan, Chair of Coimbatore Vizha 2024; Saumya Gayathri and Saritha Lakshmi, Co-Chairs; Chandrashekhar, Trustee and Subramanian & Natarajan, Committee Members, Uyir.
Riders and pillion passengers donned helmets and maintained a steady, measured pace over the 11-kilometre route, effectively conveying the importance of helmet use and responsible riding to onlookers.
Rajkanna praised the organisers, noting that events like these foster enthusiasm among youth while educating them about road safety, helmet use, and safe driving practices.
Ashok Kumar opined that a bike ride can be enjoyable even at a slower pace. Speed isn’t the only way to enhance the experience. “Slow down and enjoy the ride is the takeaway message,” he said.
The rally attracted 600 bikers.
