Every year on October 16th World Food Day is observed globally to eradicate hunger, ensure food security, boost agricultural productivity and support a sustainable food system.

This year World Food Day is celebrated with the theme ‘Right to food for a better life’ which notes that eating healthy food is our right like other basic right for a better life.

It is a global initiative bringing governments, organisations and individuals to tackle hunger and malnutrition. World Food Day has been observed since the establishment of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in 1945 by the United Nations.

From 2014, the primary objective of World Food Day was to promote the idea of feeding the world and eliminating poverty in rural areas. In recent years, it has addressed diverse aspects of food security and agriculture, exploring themes such as fishing communities, climate change, and biodiversity. This day also aims to create awareness about the importance of healthy dietary practices.

Let’s all support this global initiative by adopting mindful practices in our daily lives, such as not wasting food. Encourage children, friends, and siblings to do the same. By reducing food wastage, we can ensure that more people have access to three nutritious meals a day, contributing to healthier and more sustainable communities.

Together, we can make a significant impact by promoting better food habits and supporting those in need.
