“Space exploration is witnessing a tremendous transformation, with the demand for rocket launches increasing rapidly. While rocket manufacturing and launches were traditionally led by governments, private organizations are now playing an increasingly important role in the space sector,” said Narayanan Appu, Director, ISRO Propulsion Complex (IPRC) here on Monday.

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) – ISRO Propulsion Complex (IPRC), Mahendragiri, in association with Sri Krishna College of Engineering and Technology (SKCET), Coimbatore is organizing a three-day Space Expo, as part of the World Space Week Celebrations 2026.

As part of the three-day celebrations, the expo features a wide range of programs aimed at creating awareness and interest in space science and technology among students and the general public. The activities include technical lectures, video shows on the Indian Space Program, space exhibitions, career guidance sessions, drawing and elocution competitions, and sky-watching sessions through telescopes.

R. Hutton, Former Director, Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC), ISRO, Thiruvananthapuram was the Chief Guest. Coimbatore District Collector, Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar took part as the Guest of Honor. Narayanan Appu, Director, ISRO Propulsion Complex (IPRC), Mahendragiri presided over the event.
S. Malarvizhi, Chairperson and Managing Trustee, Sri Krishna Institutions chaired the inaugural ceremony.

R. Hutton emphasized the importance of developing strong scientific and technological capabilities among young people and encouraged students to cultivate curiosity, innovation and a spirit of exploration. He urged the students consider careers in science, engineering and space technology.

Narayanan Appu said India has emerged as a major space power, with ISRO earning global recognition through missions such as Chandrayaan. He added that the greatest strength of ISRO is its human resource and the ideas and innovation of our youth will be crucial in taking India’s space program to greater heights.

Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar IAS expressed confidence that initiatives like this Space Expo will inspire the next generation of scientists and space professionals who will contribute to India’s continued achievements in space.
