Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Coimbatore Kendra, held its 25th Dance Festival recently over three days.

The inaugural day began with the conferment of the “Nritya Ratna” award.

Welcoming the gathering, Nagasubramaniam, Chairman, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, spoke about the extensive role played by the Bhavan in promoting Indian classical music and dance among the public.

He stated that this year’s dance festival was based on the theme of “Alwars” and featured performances by prestigious dance academies.

He conferred the “Nritya Ratna” award on reputed Bharatanatyam artiste Lavanya Sankar, Founder of Abhyasa Academy of Classical Dance.

In her acceptance speech, Lavanya Sankar thanked various organisations, including Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, for supporting her in her Bharatanatyam journey. She recalled the rigorous training and blessings of her guru, Sarasa, which helped her evolve as a reputed artiste.

This was followed by a dance recital on “Nammalwar” by Abhyasa Academy of Classical Dance, which was premiered in Coimbatore.

The second day featured a dance recital on “Kulasekhara Alwar” by Shree Darpana School for Bharatanatyam, followed by a recital on “Tirumangai Alwar” by Mayuri Cultural Arts Centre.

The third day featured a dance recital on “Thiruppanalwar” by Navarasa Natyalaya, followed by a recital on “Thondaradipodi Alwar” by Sai Krishna School of Fine Arts.
