The Youth Red Cross and Unnat Bharat Abhiyan of KPR College of Arts, Science and Research (KPRCAS) organised a “First Food, First Right: Breastfeeding Awareness Campaign” at Kittampalayam village on Monday, as part of the institution’s community extension and rural outreach initiative.
The programme was presided over by Geetha, Principal of the college, who emphasised the importance of maternal and child health and the vital role of proper nutrition in the healthy growth and development of newborns.
The programme was graced by Chandrasekar, Former President, and Marshal Mukesh Antony, Medical Officer, Primary Health Centre, Kittampalayam, as special guests.
The awareness session focused on the nutritional and health benefits of breastfeeding and encouraged new mothers to follow appropriate breastfeeding practices for the well-being of their children. The session also highlighted the need to create awareness among mothers and families about healthy infant-care practices.
As part of the initiative, nutritious kits were distributed to new mothers to support their nutritional needs and overall well-being. The campaign benefited more than 24 newborns and their mothers, strengthening awareness of maternal and infant health in the rural community.
The programme was coordinated by Tharani and Mekala, Coordinators of the Youth Red Cross, and Raam Kumar, Coordinator, Unnat Bharat Abhiyan.
