The international-standard hockey ground of Coimbatore Corporation in R.S.Puram is hosting the 16th Hockey India Junior Men National Championship 2026. Held from 28th July to 8th August here, the tournament features country’s finest junior men’s hockey teams who compete to decide the national champions.
The tournament follows a league-format during the pool stage, with teams earning 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, and no points for a loss. In Division ‘A’ classification matches where a winner is required, tied contests will be decided through a shoot-out in accordance with the FIH Tournament Regulations.
According to Akashvani, a total of 30 teams are participating across Division ‘A’, ‘B’, and ‘C’, with promotion and relegation adding further significance to every fixture. While Division ‘A’ teams will compete for the championship title, teams in Divisions ‘B’ and ‘C’ will battle for promotion to the next division.
44 league matches will be held till August 3rd. Quarter finals and Semi finals will be held on August 5th and 6th. While the grand finals will be held on August 8th from 4 p.m. onwards. The inaugural ceremony was held on Tuesday evening, and it had the participation of Srinivasan, Chairman, Emerald Jewel Industry India took part as the Chief Guest of the ceremony. V. Lakshminarayanasamy, President of the Coimbatore District Hockey Association (CDHA) also attended.
Thanks to the City Corporation, Coimbatore is now a happening place for high-profile Hockey tournaments. Built on a 7.02 acre land at a cost Rs.9.67 crore, the hockey ground is starting to be a catalyst for hockey craze in the city. It is certified by international hockey federation, and is eligible to host International Hockey events. The day Coimbatore hosting international hockey tournaments is not far.
