Royal Care Hospital and Indian Medical Association – Coimbatore joined hands to organize and awareness walkathon on head injuries and polytrauma.
Polytrauma is a medical term for a person who has sustained multiple, severe injuries; often including traumatic brain injury (TBI) and orthopedic trauma, in a single, high-energy incident. It involves at least two severe injuries to different body areas that, combined, are life-threatening and require immediate, specialized care.
The walkathon was flagged off by Dr.K.Madeswaran, Chairman, Royal Care Multi Specialty Hospital along with Dr.Koshal Ram, President and Dr.Parameswaran, Honorary Secretary, Indian Medical Association – Coimbatore on Sunday.

Held from Race Course to Nanjappa Road in the city, the walkathon featured hundreds of participants holding awareness placards, urging motorists to follow traffic rules to reduce road accidents.
Speaking to The Covai Mail, Dr.K.Madeswaran said “Royal Care remains one of the important hospitals in the district to treat polytrauma.”
He shared that in Tamil Nadu, efforts taken by the stakeholders have led to significant reduction in the time taken to reach hospitals from the site of injury. He also appreciated the role played by 108 ambulances.

Talking about the developments in emergency and first-response, he said that there are good improvements in hospital at the periphery level, that provide initial care securing patients and sending them to advanced care. Hence no matter what kind of accident it is, around 95% of the victims are saved.
“In spite of all these developments, it is our job as citizens to prevent accidents,” he emphasized. He underlined that strict adherence to traffic rules, zero-drunk driving, zero-cellphone usage while driving, zero-one way riding are all important to achieve that goal.
“The pillion-riders in two wheelers must wear helmets and co-passengers in cars must wear seatbelts while the vehicle is in motion. Regardless of who you are, you must follow rules to create an accident-free society,” he said.
