Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), in collaboration with Temasek Life Sciences Laboratory (TLL), jointly organised a Field Day & Farmers-Scientists Interaction Meet recently at Paruthikottai, Mannargudi, Tiruvarur, Tamil Nadu.
The programme aimed to showcase ongoing research activities, innovative farming practices and sustainable agricultural technologies for the benefit of farmers, scientists and other stakeholders.
The Programme was inaugurated by Thamizh Vendan, Director, TRRI, Aduthurai. The welcome address was delivered by Murali Arthanari, Head (NOFRC). The Project overview was presented by Davamani, Professor, DNRM.
A technical talk about greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from paddy fields was given by Paul Sebastin, Associate Professor, AC & RI, Kudumiyanmalai.
The project milestones were presented by Parameswari, Professor, NOFRC. Kins Varghese from TEMASEK Life Sciences Laboratory, Singapore, offered felicitation highlighting international research collaboration and sustainable intensification of agriculture.
Special addresses were delivered by Balasubramaniam, Director, DNRM, who elaborated on soil health management and integrated nutrient management strategies. Selvam, Dean, AC & RI, Kudumiyanmalai, who discussed the economics and cost-benefit aspects of sustainable rice production during his special address.
Jahanmohan, Dean, AC & RI, Eachangkottai and Balasaraswathi, JDA, Thiruvarur delivered the special address on the farmers’ participatory approach. Followed by this, the Presidential address was delivered by ThamizhVendan, who emphasised the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing climate change and ensuring sustainable agricultural productivity.
Nearly 250 participants attended the programme. In continuation of this program, 5 to 6 farmers introduced themselves and also gave their valuable feedback and field experiences.
Finally, the programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Kalaiselvi, Associate Professor, ENS.
