Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently outlined nine civic pledges, or “resolutions,” for citizens to adopt to help build a developed India by 2047, referred to as Viksit Bharat. He emphasised that achieving the goal of a developed nation requires a sense of duty from every citizen.
The nine resolutions are:
- Water Conservation: A commitment to conserve water and protect rivers.
- Tree Plantation: Supporting the ongoing “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” (One Tree in Mother’s Name) campaign by planting trees.
- Cleanliness (Swachhta): Ensuring that every street, neighbourhood, and city remains clean.
- Adopting Swadeshi: Promoting the “Vocal for Local” mantra and the use of indigenous products.
- Desh Darshan (Explore India): Visiting at least 25 places across India connected to the country’s heritage to gain a deeper understanding.
- Natural Farming: Promoting and adopting natural farming practices.
- Healthy Lifestyle: Embracing healthy living, including the use of millets and reducing oil consumption.
- Yoga and Sports: Incorporating yoga and sports into daily life.
- Helping the Poor: Working to improve the life of at least one person in need.
These resolutions are distinct from the “Panch Pran” (Five Vows) announced earlier, which serve as broader guiding principles for the nation’s journey during the ‘Amrit Kaal,’ the 25-year lead-up to the 100th anniversary of India’s independence in 2047.
