The Adverse Drug Reaction Monitoring Centre at Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Paramedical Sciences, College of Pharmacy, in association with the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC), National Coordination Centre for Pharmacovigilance Programme of India (NCC-PvPI), conducted the 5th National Pharmacovigilance Week Celebration from 17th to 23rd September 2025.

The event was held under the theme “Your safety, just a click away: Report to PVPI.” It focused on enhancing awareness about the importance of reporting adverse drug reactions (ADRs) to ensure the safety of medicines and protect public health.

On 23rd September 2025, at Sri Ramakrishna Hospital Campus, Coimbatore, a scientific presentation session was organised.

Dr. Sriram, Principal of the college, welcomed the gathering and emphasised the growing relevance of pharmacovigilance in the context of evolving drug therapies and patient care.

He highlighted the establishment of the Adverse Drug Reaction Monitoring Centre at Sri Ramakrishna Hospital in 2019 under the PvPI, coordinated by the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission.

The programme was presided over by Dr. Rajagopal, Medical Director of the hospital, who pointed out that advancements in pharmacovigilance reporting systems have significantly improved the efficiency, accuracy, and accessibility of adverse drug reaction (ADR) monitoring.

Dr. Vijay Venkatraman, Managing Director & CEO of Oviya MedSafe (Pharmacovigilance Consulting & Drug Safety Services), Coimbatore, in his chief guest address, emphasised the importance of reporting adverse drug reactions (ADRs) to enhance patient safety and build a responsive healthcare system. He commended the Pharmacovigilance Programme of India (PvPI) for strengthening post-marketing surveillance and acknowledged the key role of hospital-based ADR Monitoring Centres.

A scientific session on the topic “Pharmacovigilance – A Global Science and Indian Success Story with Future Opportunities” was delivered by the resource person, Dr. Vijay Venkatraman. His insightful talk highlighted the growth of pharmacovigilance worldwide and the emerging scope for young pharmacy professionals.

An interactive question-and-answer session was also conducted, where students, staff, and healthcare professionals actively participated and clarified their queries, making the session highly engaging and informative.

As part of Pharmacovigilance Week, a series of events such as essay writing, poster making, and elocution competitions were conducted, and prizes were distributed to the winners by the chief guest.
