VGM Hospital, Coimbatore, in association with the Kovai Athletic Club, organised the 5th edition of the Run for Nation Marathon on 27th July 2025, starting from VOC Grounds.
More than 4,000 participants, ranging in age from 8 to 85, took part in the event across various categories. Notably, around 150 differently-abled individuals also participated with great enthusiasm.
The marathon was flagged off by Dr. V.G. Mohan Prasad, Chairman of VGM Hospital; Dr. Suman, Sports Injury Specialist; Dr. Madhura Prasad, Gastroenterologist; Dr. Sundarraj, Chairman of the Tamil Nadu Surgeons Society; Leema Martin Rose, Director of Martin Group of Companies; Rtn. Maruti, District Governor Elect, RI District 3206; the Young Indians Team, and other dignitaries.
“This is a significant day in Coimbatore, as the event has brought together 4,000 participants running for a noble cause. Running is a great form of physical exercise. As you keep running, you become healthier every day and reduce the risk of illness. We must all run for our nation and our well-being,” said Dr. Mohan Prasad.
Adding further, Dr. Suman emphasized the inclusivity of the event, noting the enthusiastic participation of nearly 150 differently-abled individuals.
Last year, the event focused on raising awareness about obesity. This year, the spotlight shifted to the theme “Save the Knee,” highlighting the rising incidence of knee-related issues and the urgent need for public awareness.
In alignment with this theme, a team of 11 medical specialists from VGM Hospital conducted awareness programs over the past three months, reaching more than 100 organisations, industries, schools, and colleges, with a particular focus on knee health.
Speaking about the scale of the event, Dr. Suman mentioned that over 4,000 participants came from five South Indian states and competed in 12 different categories. A total cash prize of ₹1.5 lakhs was awarded to the winners. He also shared that there are plans to elevate the event to international status starting next year.
