The Delhi Traffic Police have penalised over 4.87 lakh motorists as of October 2025 for driving without valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificates. This marks a sharp 20% increase compared to 3.78 lakh violations recorded during the same period in 2024, according to officials.
The action comes amid concerns over worsening air quality in the national capital, which continues to fluctuate between the ‘poor’ and ‘severe’ categories, particularly during the winter months. Vehicular emissions remain a major contributor to Delhi’s air pollution, prompting authorities to take stringent measures.
“Strict action is being taken against violators to curb vehicular emissions, which significantly impact Delhi’s air quality,” an official said.
Authorities have urged vehicle owners to ensure that their vehicles have valid PUC certificates and comply with emission norms to avoid penalties and contribute to cleaner air. The crackdown is part of a broader effort by the Delhi government and Traffic Police to tackle pollution and protect public health.
