VLB Janakiammal College of Arts and Science celebrated National Farmers’ Day on January 5, 2026, under the theme “Saluting Our Farmers – Cultivators of Life.”

As part of the celebrations, 80 farmers were felicitated, appreciated, and honoured with awards in recognition of their invaluable contribution to the field of agriculture.

The programme was organised under the leadership of Suryakumar, Chairman, VLBJ Trust, who highlighted the enduring significance of farmers as the unseen architects of national resilience and sustainable growth.

Several dignitaries were present at the event, including Palanisamy, District President, and Periyasamy, District Vice President of the Tamil Nadu Farmers Association; Sriram Prasad, CEO and Founder, Keerai Kadai Ventures; Sakthinarayanan, Vice President (West Zone), Pothys Retail; Manimegalai Ramamoorthy, President, Town Panchayat, Alandurai; Rtn. PHF. PP. Arul, GGR, Rotary Club of Coimbatore D’Elite; and Paulraj, Founder and Chairman, Thai Tamil Academy.

All the speakers emphasised the need to strengthen grassroots agriculture through innovation and policy support.

Kalaivani, Principal of the college, underscored that higher education must transcend classrooms by cultivating empathy, social responsibility, and enduring respect for agrarian communities among students.

Brindha, Director of Academics and Research, reinforced that recognising farmers symbolises an institutional commitment to ethical stewardship, environmental harmony, and respect for the labour that sustains civilisation.

A major highlight of the programme was the felicitation of 80 farmers, honouring their perseverance and invaluable contribution to society.

Farmers also brought fresh organic vegetables, and the EDC and VLBJ Incubation and Startup Centre of the college organised a vibrant Spot Sandhai.

The initiative received an enthusiastic response, with students and faculty eagerly purchasing the produce, thereby promoting healthy living and supporting local farmers.

In addition, tribal people from the foothills of Velliangiri Malai set up a stall offering herbal products, which were warmly received by students and faculty members.

The college acknowledged the generous support of Pothys Garments Shop, Rotary Club D’Elite, and Thai Tamizh Academy, whose contributions were instrumental in the successful conduct of the event.
