The Department of Psychology, Rathinam College of Arts and Science (RCAS), organized a one-day national workshop on Cathartic Release and Neurofeedback Therapies, recently.
The workshop aimed to provide an in-depth understanding of these two crucial therapeutic techniques and their applications in contemporary psychological practice.
Key figures from the academic and psychological communities, including Dr. BalaSubramanian, Principal of Rathinam College of Arts and Science, and Dr. A. Seethalakshmy, Head of the Department of Psychology, attended the event.
The workshop focused on Cathartic Release Therapy, a psychological technique that helps individuals release pent-up emotions and trauma. Dr. R. J. Haribabu, the Founder and Managing Director of Heartfulness Counselling Center in Tiruppur, led the session, which discussed the history, evolution, and practical applications of Cathartic Release Therapy.
The second half of the workshop was dedicated to Neurofeedback Therapies, a cutting-edge approach in neuroscience and psychology that trains the brain to regulate itself more effectively.
Two distinguished professionals conducted this session: Dr. Jeya Prakash, a Consultant Neuropsychiatrist at the Government Coimbatore Medical College Hospital, and Rosilita Sherly, an EEG Technician at the same institution.
The workshop attracted a large contingent of students from several prominent colleges, including GRD College of Arts and Science, Nandha College of Arts and Science, Hindusthan College of Arts and Science, St. Joseph College of Arts and Science, Vellalar College of Arts and Science, and RVS College of Arts and Science.
The diverse representation from these institutions reflected the growing interest in contemporary psychological therapies among the next generation of mental health professionals
In their closing remarks, the workshop coordinator, Rajaswathy. R, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology, Rathinam College of Arts and Science expressed gratitude to the speakers and participants for their contributions to the workshop’s success.
She emphasized the School of Science and the Department of Psychology’s commitment to organizing more such events in the future, aimed at fostering a deeper understanding of mental health and promoting innovative therapeutic practices.
The day concluded with a certificate distribution by , Dr S. N Suresh, Vice Principal, and Dr KPV Sabreesh , Research Dean Rathinam College of Arts and Science, who acknowledged the efforts of the organizing team, the speakers, and the participants.
As the attendees departed, there was a palpable sense of enthusiasm and anticipation for future collaborations and learning opportunities in the field of mental health. The workshop attracted over 300 participants from various institutions and professionals.
