The Department of Visual Communication at Rathinam College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore, hosted a grand celebration of World Photography Day, which witnessed more than 8000 students visiting the exhibition and events throughout the day.

Mathimaran, a distinguished Documentary Photographer and Photojournalist, officially inaugurated the celebration by ribbon-cutting.

The inaugural address was delivered by Swathi, Student Council Cultural Minister, who highlighted the significance of photography as a medium of storytelling, documentation, and creative expression.

Mathimaran, in his address, captivated the audience with his powerful insights into visual storytelling, field experiences, and the role of photography in contemporary journalism. Tribal photographs made a great impact on students.

His session inspired aspiring photographers and media students to use their lenses as tools for social impact and awareness.

Following the guest lecture, the celebration continued with a Photography Exhibition that showcased Mathimaran’s compelling works, alongside creative captures by the students of Visual Communication.

Adding a historical dimension to the event, a Camera Museum Display featured a rare collection of vintage cameras, offering visitors a glimpse into the fascinating evolution of photography technology.

The event was graced by the presence of eminent dignitaries, including Balasubramani, Principal; Suresh, Vice Principal; Sathisanandan, Head, Department of Visual Communication; Raju, Dean, Student Affairs; and Mahendiran, Station Head, Rathinavani Community Radio.

With over 8000 students actively including college & School students, teachers participated and visited the exhibition, the event stood as one of the largest photography celebrations in the region.
