PSG Institute of Oncology, the Indian Medical Association, and the Coimbatore Cancer Foundation jointly commemorated World Cancer Day under the theme “United by Unique” on 4 February 2026 at the PSG Hospital campus.

Oncologists from PSG, heads of the Association, and members of the Cancer Foundation tied ribbons on a tree as part of the observance.

A special musical orchestra performance by PSG students was held in honour of cancer warriors.
Dr. Rajkumar, Medical Superintendent, PSG Institute of Oncology, said that many people fear cancer, considering it a deadly disease, but with advanced technologies, it can be treated effectively. He added that the event was organised to create awareness and help people overcome misconceptions about cancer.
Referring to this year’s theme, he said that each cancer patient is unique and requires personalised treatment. The needs of patients vary, and the stages of the disease differ, making it essential to plan treatment according to individual requirements.

Referring to the Union Budget, which exempted customs duty on 17 cancer drugs, he said this would reduce the cost of treatment and benefit patients. He also welcomed other healthcare initiatives announced in this year’s Budget.
Dr. Koshal Ram, President of the Indian Medical Association, said that cancer is a big journey, but with a dedicated team it can be overcome. He added that patients are strong fighters and, with the support of a committed medical team, the journey can be made smoother. “By standing united, we will definitely win over cancer,” he said.
