Dr. NGP Arts and Science College, Coimbatore, has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Insurance Institute of India (III), Mumbai, at the college.

The MoU signing was graced by Saravanan, Principal and Banudevi, Dean Commerce of the college.

Representing the Insurance Institute of India were Prasad, Hon. Secretary, and Vetrivel, Vice Chairman, Coimbatore Insurance Institute, along with four other members from the Coimbatore chapter.

This landmark collaboration paves the way for offering the Licentiate Course in Insurance as an Add-On Program for B.Com (Banking and Insurance) students, starting from the 2025–26 academic year.

The course is exclusively tailored for the 2024–27 and 2025–28 batches.

Through this partnership, students will have the opportunity to earn a professional Licentiate Certificate during their undergraduate studies. This will equip them with practical skills and domain-specific knowledge essential for careers in the BFSI (Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance) sector.

Students will also gain access to the Insurance Institute of India’s extensive learning resources, including library access and industry Placement updates.

Successful completion of the Licentiate Course will open pathways for further certifications, such as Associate, Fellowship, and other specialised diploma programs offered by the Insurance Institute of India.

Additionally, B.Com (Banking and Insurance) students will have the opportunity to specialise in Actuarial Science, a discipline that applies mathematical and statistical methods to assess and manage risk, particularly in the insurance industry.

This specialisation aims to build deep industry insights and prepare students for leadership roles in the insurance sector. Moreover, the MoU includes provisions for research support.

Researchers focusing on insurance and risk can now apply for grants from the Insurance Institute of India for their innovative and impactful work.

This opens doors to cutting-edge research that could significantly contribute to the growth and modernisation of the insurance industry.

Overall, this collaboration between the college and the Insurance Institute of India is a significant step toward developing a skilled workforce, enhancing academic-industry integration, and promoting research and innovation in the insurance sector.
