Bharathiar University-Youth Red Cross, Coimbatore Zone, in association with Kongunadu Arts and Science College (KASC) organized a ‘One Day Zonal Level Orientation Program for Program Officers’ on 25th September 2024.
Premasudha, YRC Zonal Coordinator, Bharathiar University welcomed the gathering. Sangeetha, Principal i/c of the College honoured the chief guest, Lovelina Little Flower, member of the Vice Chancellor’s Convenor Committee, Bharathiar University.
The presidential address was delivered by Lovelina Little Flower. She focused on the importance and need for extension activities that indeed enhance career activities. She also gave a brief idea about blood donation camps, other volunteering opportunities for young homemakers and so on.
Chellasamy, Professor and Former Coordinator, YRC, Department of Commerce, Bharathiar University, Coimbatore, took over the first session on the topic “Principles of Red Cross Society.” He spoke on 7 principles of the Red Cross Society and three essential principles such as Health, Service and Friendship of the Youth Red Cross. He also explained the levels in the Indian Red Cross Committee from Collector being the president to the level of volunteers.
Gomathi, YRC District Organiser, Assistant Professor of English, PSGR Krishnammal College for Women, Peelamedu, delivered a speech on the topic “Member of the Youth Red Cross: Role, Responsibilities, and Benefits.” She presented a detailed overview of the programmes and activities that are essential in YRC.
The resource person deliberated on the origin and development of the Red Cross Society.
The session concluded with Gomathi and Premasudha answering all the queries raised by audience related to YRC.
Session III was handled by Alagarsamy, Professor and Head, Department of Social Work, Sri Krishna Arts and Science College. He shed light on the topic “Contemporary Social Service Opportunities for YRC Program Officers.” He emphasized on traditional activities of YRC and its new avenues that can be followed by Program Officers.
Rupa Gunaseelan, Registrar i/c, Bharathiar University, delivered the valedictory address and distributed the certificates to all the Program Officers. Quoted Swami Vivekananda’s dictum “Arise, awake and stop not until the goal is reached” thereby addressing the youth to take a step toward abolition of drug abuse among students maintaining health and sharing the responsibility of cyber security.
Manivannan, YRC Program Officer of the College delivered the vote of thanks. There were 54 YRC program officers from various colleges of Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Erode and Tirupur districts participated in the orientation program.
