The 166th Income Tax Day was celebrated at Convention Centre of Sri Krishna College of Engineering and Technology, Kuniamuthur, Coimbatore.
The event was presided over by Arun Bharat, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Coimbatore. The guests of honour were Dr. G. Bakthavathsalam, Chairman, KG Hospital and Post Graduate Medical Institute and S. V. Balasubramaniam, Chairman, Bannari Amman Group.
Senior officers from other departments, eminent taxpayers, tax professionals, and office bearers of various Trade associations in Coimbatore attended the event.
The event commenced with a welcome address by Diwakar Prasad, Pr. Commissioner of Income Tax, Coimbatore, followed by felicitation of dignitaries.
A congratulatory message from Ravi Agarwal, Chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes, was telecast during the event. In his address, he emphasised several key points, including the department’s role in drafting the New Income Tax Act, 2025, ensuring a smooth transition to the new Act, enhancing taxpayer services, curbing tax evasion, and implementing technological upgrades within the department.

As part of the celebrations, various competitions were organized for school and college students in and around Coimbatore. Notably, a painting event was held at Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Dream School and Rehabilitation Centre for children with special needs.
Prizes and certificates of appreciation were awarded to students from PSG College of Arts and Science, Rathinam College of Arts and Science, Sri Krishna College of Engineering and Technology, CMS College of Arts and Science, and Sankara College of Arts and Science during the Income Tax Day celebration.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Elamurugu, Additional Commissioner of Income Tax, Non-Corporate Range-2, Coimbatore.
